This photo was taken on a lazy warm and sunny summer day in August of 2013. My wife and kids were gone visit some friends so I had a rare day alone to do whatever I wanted to do. I decided to go out on my bike and ride around looking for some nice Switzerland scenery. This photo was taken near Horw, Switzerland. For some reason in German they say this town like it is spelled Horb. Normally in the german language a “w” is pronounced like a “v” in english, so maybe they are saying it with a very soft “v”??
I think it was around 5PM, so the sun was getting lower in the sky which made for better lighting, and then the nice fluffy clouds came and blocked some of the sun. In the hills/mountains there was some haze so you can see some rays of sunshine, which I really like.
Mount Pilatus in the background on the left, is the main mountain overlooking the very popular tourist destination, Lucerne Switzerland, or in german, Luzern, Schweiz. You can go to the top of the mountain which is 2,128 meters (6,982 feet) above sea level, with the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, from Alpnachstad, and with the aerial panorama gondolas and aerial cableways from Kriens. If you are in good physical condition, you can also hike up to the top via a mountainous trail, which I have never done. Mount Pilatus also has a summer toboggan track which is 0.88 miles or 1,350 meters long, and the biggest suspension rope park in Central Switzerland.
